5 Exciting Summer Day Trip Ideas in Switzerland
From cycling and culinary delights to bouncing on trampolines or discovering sustainable energy on a playground – summer offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor experiences. Here are five highlights.
Walk around Lake Göscheneralpsee
Andermatt Sedrun Disentis
The Göscheneralpsee, with its intense turquoise-blue water, is a real highlight in the Andermatt Sedrun Disentis region. What is no longer visible, however, is the former settlement of Göscheneralp, which disappeared under the lake after the construction of the dam in 1960.The circular hike starts directly at the dam wall and leads through untouched, high-alpine landscapes. On the right side of the lake, the trail goes into the Chelenalptal before crossing back to the other shore towards Göscheneralp. Along the way, you’ll meet goats from the “Geissenparadies,” where you can also buy fresh goat cheese. The 12.5 km route takes about five hours on foot.
Cycling and indulgence combined
Langnau
The sweet biscuits from Swiss company Kambly are famous across the country. On the fully signposted cycling route No. 777 through the rolling hills of the Emmental valley, sport and pleasure come together perfectly. The route starts and ends in Langnau im Emmental. It first climbs toward Hüpfenboden and Blapbach, followed by a fast descent to Trubschachen, home of Kambly’s headquarters. At the Kambly Experience World, visitors can learn interactively about the company’s origins and stock up on sweets in the factory shop.
High-energy fun in a trampoline park
Rümlang
Even in summer, rainy days happen – but fun and movement are still guaranteed at the Flip Lab trampoline hall in Rümlang. On 3,000 square meters, 110 trampolines in various zones offer different levels of challenge. Children under seven must always be accompanied by an adult.
Energy playground adventure
UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch
The UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch in Schüpfheim is a unique natural area with Switzerland’s largest moor landscapes, impressive karst formations, and rich biodiversity. A highlight is the energy playground, where children learn about renewable energy by producing it themselves. For example, they shovel wood chips to power a water wheel and fill a channel system. Teamwork is essential, as all elements are interconnected. On hot summer days, the water also provides refreshing relief.
Thrills on the via ferrata
Charmey
The via ferrata in Charmey requires courage and surefootedness. There are three different routes:• “The Buttresses” (K3) – suitable for less experienced climbers, but still quite challenging • “Quadratisches Vid I” (K5) – for experienced climbers • “Quadratisches Vid II” (K6) – for very experienced climbers At the top, visitors are rewarded with spectacular views of the Gastlosen, Moléson, and the Fribourg region. Access is only possible via cable car or on foot, about 15 minutes from the upper station.
